What is Sin( Ghunah)?

What is Sin( Ghunah)? ( from a seminar given by Dr. Farhat Hashmi)

Sin is:

1. Everything that Allah dislikes
2. what lurks in the heart as a thorn
3. Something bothering you which if exposed creates fear of exposure in you

From Hadith

What are the reason for Sins

1. desires of the Nafs
2. Lack of ilm
3. Love of dunya
4. To make people happy rather than Allah (lying)
5. Ghafala/ignorance heedlessness
6. Weak belief or lack of belief in Day of judgement
7. Love of self/Arrogance
8. Weak link with Allah
9. Bad companions
10. Succumb to Shaitaans whisperings
11. Disappointment with Allahs rahma
12. Weakness of iradah
