HADITH

Introduction:

A beautiful outer life comes from a beautiful inner landscape which in turn is beautified by taking some steps to practice mindful living taught and practiced by the Insaan e Kamil (The perfect Human being): Prophet Muhammad pbuh.

Beautifying the inner image is the first step to bringing inner peace, which then beautifies the outer landscape, and outer peace.

The best short cut to a beautiful character and inner image comes from the instructions from the Hadith and the example of the life of Prophet Muhammad pbuh.

What are the steps to beautify the life we live in?

The first step is to beautify our inner landscape (inner image/character).

If I want a beautiful Khuluq (character) I must strive for it.

As an example of the importance of character change in our life, I must remember that the world will change when I change. The world is only what I see through the lens of my heart, if the lens of my heart changes I see the world changing. The lens of the heart has to be polished so the dirt or veils on it does not distort or cloud the image of our world.

Prophet Muhammad pbuh says:

“ Of those most beloved to Allah of the human beings are those that are most beneficial to other human beings”(Hadith)

I must remember that I do not have free rein over the dignity and freedom of others and that:

“ The most beloved deed to Allah is the joy and happiness that you and I contribute to the heart of a fellow Muslim and a fellow human being”***

The more we delve in secular and religious education without the Sunnah, the more harsh and demanding we become of people and demand that people be like us un unquestioningly.

HOW TO HELP PEOPLE WHO ARE SAD AND DEPRESSED?

When you see a person who is unhappy, sad and depressed do not speak to them of esoteric subjects, (including the fiqh and aqeedah etc) first help him get over that state.

Rahma is the first thing I must do, I remind myself that Allah rules with Rahma. Thus I must instill Rahma in my actions to alleviate the pain, sadness and depression of others.

Remind me to do the following to make a beautiful inner landscape (character) for me:

RELIEF FROM GRIEF: You help the person get relief from hurt, grief, and from constriction. Help them in ways they find helpful to release them from their hurt and grief.

RELIEF FROM HUNGER: Help the person to be rid of hunger

RELIEF FROM THE FALLOUT FROM ANGER:

Prophet Muhammad pbuh said: “who so ever withholds and restrains his operative anger (whether it is a man or woman, young or old, powerful or weak in their relationships, with Muslims in masajed, people in the neighbor hood, politicians, supervisors, bosses and all levels of people in different walks of life.) Allah will cover his or her faults.*** (those faults that we don’t want others to know).

WHAT AND WHO COVERS OUR FAULTS?

Thus Allah is covering the faults of some because they control their anger in their interpersonal relationships and others who control their anger in other scenarios.

When we control our anger, Allah puts a shield to protect us from exposure of our deficiencies and shortcomings saving our dignity in public and private.

By choosing to express anger we melt the shield that protects our deficiencies from the public now and on the Day of Judgment.

“ Who so ever restrains his wrath and had the power to execute his wrath, but they do not, the reward is Allah will fill his heart with satisfaction on the Day of Judgment”***

The wrath of the powerful who have the power to truly wreak their wrath on the powerless and they choose not to for the sake of Allah, are rewarded by Allah.

It is borne out of tawheed widjani.

RELIEF FROM FEELING LOST

Who so ever accompanies a brother and sister till they acquire what they were searching for (you walk with them to help them find what they needed and that need is fulfilled) Allah will provide steadfastness on the Day of Judgment (when all are stumbling and falling with fear***

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DO NOT DO THE ABOVE?

If we do not do what Prophet Muhammad pbuh has shown us to be the path to inner peace and beauty, what happens to our inner landscape?

We develop an ugly Khuluq (character) we are unhappy and agitated inside, thus how can we bring peace and beauty outside?

What is the opposite of the Beautiful Khuluq (inner image)? It is THE UGLY KHULUQ

HADITH

An ugly khuluq will spoil good deeds like vinegar destroys honey.***

HOMEWORK: DUA, STRATEGY, REMIND MYSELF WITH THE WORDS ABOVE, THINKING DAILY AND IMPLORING ALLAH TO PUT ME ON THAT COURSE.

(This is a reminder for mindful living)

HOW TO DO IT?

If we want something we will remember it, and if we remember it we will do it, and if we do it, it will happen.

So do it my friends and encourage me too!

DUA: May the Divine be with you and help your efforts to bring peace and equanimity in your heart and your environs.
