Allah Subhanawataala promises entry into the Gardens if we can avoid the major sins, and one of the major sins that Muslim women indulge in every day and if not everyday than at least on Friday nights (how ironic) or when they are invited to a dinner party.
Tomorrow night there is a large party for the Pakistani community in a private home. All the women will come dressed to the hilt, hiding their aging necks, not under hijab but under large chunky necklaces either of gold or covered with a thin coating to make them seem like gold. They will get their little dishes of food and the conversation will begin.
Either they will bash other women who are not present or quietly whisper on the misfortune of those absent and shake their heads in false sympathy. Secretly they will assess the value of the clothes and jewelry that the others are wearing, and again comment on the value of theirs and how it is a valentine gift from their dear husband.
Desert will be served and some self-righteous women who never attend the mosque will comment on the activities of those who do……….. And so on.
On Thursday we studied about how we women can be admitted into the gardens of Jannah if we can refrain from indulging in the Kabair or great sins. Muslim women can pretty much avoid most of the Kabair: great sins, but there is one that we slip into seamlessly and which guarantees us the hellfire eternally……. However there is a way out.
Here is the ayah from Surah Nisa:
إِن تَجْتَنِبُوا كَبَائِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَنُدْخِلْكُم مُّدْخَلًا كَرِيمًا ﴿٣١﴾
[4:31] Yusuf Ali
If ye (but) eschew the most heinous of the things, which ye are forbidden to do, we shall expel out of you all the evil in you, and admit you to a gate of great honor.
Allah promises that if we abstain from the Kabair including backbiting we will be given entrance into Jannah.
The test comes tomorrow for a large number of women in our community as they sit together and open their mouths to say…………??
