Surah Zukhruf opens with Haa MIm, which is the opening of seven surahs in the Quran, and all of them teach us how to give the message against all odds.
The mysterious alphabets that open the Surah and then describe the Quran are a reminder for us that despite our extreme intellect we cannot decipher the significance of the Huroof e Muqattatt as they are called. Learned scholars have written books about the possible significance of these Alphabets.
Allah Subhnawataala states that the Quran is being sent in Arabic so that people (since it was in an Arabic speaking nation that it came) should be able to understand.
The Quran is an open book, clear and concise and its original message is in the Loh e Mahfuz translated here as the “mother of the books”.
The key ayah in this that particularly pertains to Muslims living in the west is ayah number 6.
[43:5] Sahih International
Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people?
43:5] Yusuf Ali
Shall We then take away the Message from you and repel (you), for that ye are a people transgressing beyond bounds?
Shall We turn away the Remembrance from you, for that you are a prodigal people?
Allah Subhanawataala states that should we ignore you (the transgressors) because of your transgressions against humanity and your Creator or should we stop giving you the message because you appear to be beyond redemption because of your excessive dhulm or transgressions.
It is a question being asked the answer of which is within the text and that is NO we should not stop giving the message to everyone even the transgressor.
Here in lie the instructions to the Muslims of now an inspiration from the words of Allah i.e. the fate of transgressors is not in our hands, we have to continue to give them the message even when we think they are extremely terrible in their approach to people and may be making our personal life difficult. We know that many transgressors (musrifeen) from the time of our Prophet pbuh became devout Muslims and went to the four corners of the world to give the message of Islam.
It does not behoove us to be judge and jury of the transgressors as far as giving them the message. We have to give them the message even if they are musrifeen.
Allah Subhanawataala goes on to say that many many Prophets were sent before you (Prophet Muhammad pbuh) and their own people ridiculed them and Allah destroyed them:
[43:8] Ahmed Ali
So We destroyed far more powerful (nations) than they. The example of earlier people is there.
Thus all the results lie in Allah’s hands but our Prophet is being commanded to continue to give the message in face of adversity and so are we.
Allah knows best.
