Surah Ghafir or Surah Momin as it is also called is a Surah revealed in Mecca. Here Allah Subhanawataala gives us the guidelines via Prophet Muhammad pbuh on how to give the message. There are many pearls to follow in this surah.
Here is one: Allah Subhanawataala sets the scene of how Musa AS gave the message the details of which precede these ayahs. However it seems that sometimes it seems that powerful forces are derailing the message of Allah and they seem to be happy, gloating, arrogant and aggressive in what seems an apparent victory for those who oppose the truth or invent new truths.
Here is the scene:
It is the court of Pharaoh; he sits on his throne (see the open air museums of Alexandria) surrounded by his court, his armed forces in full force of the manifestation of his power as a superior race, his wealth, and his sway over all that he sees and more.
Musa AS from the nation of the underdog, i.e. slaves does not behave like a slave, he is neither aggressive nor submissive, the emaan in his heart and the gifts of miracles given to him by Allah serves his strength in appearing in front of what seems to be the most powerful country and ruler in the world who can annihilate people and countries with a flick of his fingers.
In the midst of a serious intellectual and philosophical discussion on the power and unity of Allah in a court of highly qualified individuals of the Nation of Pharaoh and Musa AS, A learned man from the nation of Pharaoh speaks of the rational thoughts and reasoning of Musa AS message. He argues in favor of the message of tawheed based on history and logical thought and confirms the proofs Musa AS is presenting.
As the court falls silent and people shift uncomfortably in their shoes on recognizing the truth of the message, and the sham of Pharaoh as an Almighty power, Pharaoh sniggers and turns the conversation by using sarcasm humor and poking fun and bringing Allah to his own level by saying this to his Minister:
40:36] Yusuf Ali
Pharaoh said: “O Haman! Build me a lofty palace, that I may attain the ways and means-
[40:37] Yusuf Ali
“The ways and means of (reaching) the heavens, and that I may mount up to the god of Moses: But as far as I am concerned, I think (Moses) is a liar!” Thus was made alluring, in Pharaoh’s eyes, the evil of his deeds, and he was hindered from the Path; and the plot of Pharaoh led to nothing but perdition (for him).
How often we are in a sincere discussion with friends about the message of Allah and then someone within us makes fun of something in the Quran or a hadith or an act of violence by a random Muslim and the whole tenor of the conversation loses its authenticity.
At that time that person who became the center of the discussion and dissipated the significance of the truth, may feel happy, satisfied and superior but Allah clearly states in the last part of the ayah what happens to people who do that:
Thus was made alluring, in Pharaoh’s eyes, the evil of his deeds, and he was hindered from the Path; and the plot of Pharaoh led to nothing but perdition (for him).
When Allah turns away from someone and lets their evil deeds look good to them He Subhanawataala prevents them from entering “the path of Allah” it is then nothing but perdition” i.e. the death of the future, and nothing but fire FIRE and more FIRE in this life and in the Hereafter.
LESSON FOR ME AND PERHAPS YOU TOO?:
- Do not doubt the word of Allah, it is the truth and it is supreme.
- Do not stay with those who use the above method to denigrate the Quran, Allah and His Rasool as they and their companions are condemned to never find leave alone tread “the path” of Allah, and weak as we are we cannot be their companions in this type of life to which they have been relegated by Allah because of their above action.
Supplication: May Allah protect us from all doubt and may he always show us the truth as truth and false hood as false. Ameen
