FADAIL E ILM: THE VIRTUES OF LEARNING

Excerpted from the Retreat on “LIVING WITH TAQWA’ with Sr HY

Some of the virtues of learning or acquiring ILM are:

1. RESPECT FROM THE ANGELS OF ALLAH:

The angels lower their wings for those who seek knowledge (i.e. show respect)

2. CONNECTEDNESS:

The more one learns the more one is connected to the chain to the origin of Knowledge: from my teacher to theirs, eventually to the Taabeyeen, the Sahaba, Prophet Muhammad pbuh, Gabriel (AS) and finally to Allah Subhanawataala.

3. LIGHT

Knowledge is “Noor” or light. Thus the more we learn, the more we illuminate our companions and those around us.
