Transliteration 11:             Wamina alnnasi man yaAAbudu Allaha AAala harfin fain asabahu khayrun itmaanna bihi wain asabathu fitnatun inqalaba AAala wajhihi khasira alddunya waalakhirata thalika huwa alkhusranu almubeen

Yusuf Ali 11:             There are among men some who serve Allah, as it were, on the verge: if good befalls them, they are, therewith, well content; but if a trial comes to them, they turn on their faces: they lose both this world and the Hereafter: that is loss for all to see!

Yusuf Ali 12:             They call on such deities, besides Allah, as can neither hurt nor profit them: that is straying far indeed (from the Way)!

Transliteration 13:             YadAAoo laman darruhu aqrabu min nafAAihi labisa almawla walabisa alAAasheer

Yusuf Ali 13:             (Perhaps) they call on one whose hurt is nearer than his profit: evil, indeed, is the patron, and evil the companion (or help)!

TAFSEER by Dr. Farhat Hashmi

A person who remains at the edge and avoids joining mainstream and avoids immersing whole-heartedly in Deen it is because his or her interest in Deen is casual.

These people are very interested in Deen to promote their Dunya interests and if despite salah zakah etc their dunya gains decrease or if a child dies or they lose there job, they upend and throw away the Deen with anger and contempt blaming it as a cause of their loss in dunya resources.

People who get disappointed or face difficulties seemingly because of the practice of their faith (wearing hijab, or keeping a beard) they blame it on religion and get rid of it from their life and look elsewhere for help. Some people instead of seeking Allah and asking him and relying on Him for help they seek non Allah sources for help and become dependant on people, things, amulets, horoscopes, magic, saints etc. to help them.

Whenever these people face difficulties they first look for people who can help them rather than asking Allah to help them. Sometimes they even ask dead scholars or holy men, or seek magic or superstitious things and items to help them. If help comes to them, they attribute it to the dead people they asked rather than Allah who is all-powerful.

Anta khairul wariseen.

Allah gives and takes away.

A person is unable to truly worship Allah with sincerity until he or she does not cut herself off from dependence on all human and non-Allah sources for fulfilling their needs. (This is the basis of Tazkiyah Nafs, where the first step is to remove the dependence and attachments to dunya, people and things and turn to Allah with the full knowledge that He and He alone can help us, and that we can fully rely on Him.

He and only He is the only one that we must rely on and remove all other dependence on people and recognize that if help comes the person or thing bringing the help is only a servant of Allah and it is at His command that this help has come to us).
