Surah Anbiya 21: 12-15
Yet, when they felt Our Punishment (coming), behold they (tried to) flee from it. (12) Flee not, but return to the good things of this life which were given you, and to your homes, in order that ye may be called to account. (13) They said: “Ah! Woe to us! We were indeed wrongdoers!” (14) And that cry of theirs ceased not, till We made them as a field that is mown, as ashes silent and quenched. (15)

When they sensed the coming of the punishment they tried to run away
All their life some people accumulate luxuries. When death comes one flees and forgets all the luxuries, the same luxuries that one has been busy collecting all ones life, become meaningless at the time of death.
The example of being mown down is a severe reminder of the Punishment in ayah 15.
