LIFE CHANGES ALL THE TIME:18:45

Lush greenery after rain in the mountains of Lebanon

Set forth to them the similitude of the life of this world: it is like the rain which We send down from the skies: the earth’s vegetation absorbs it, But soon it becomes dry stubble, which the winds do scatter: it is (only) Allah Who prevails over all things. (45)

Tafseer by Dr. Farhat Hashmi (translated into English)

Allah Subhanawataaala says: Explain to them the example from life, to elucidate the concept.

The life of dunya is to be explained with an example. It is like water, we brought it down from the skies and then everything on earth became thick, lush green. When it rains everything becomes green and covers the earth, but this does not remain the same, the greenery is temporary and then the green on earth changes, it disintegrates and crumbles (Hasheem) into dry pieces.

The dry pieces are then scattered into the winds, and Allah has control over everything.

Hashim means crumbling . Hashim came from the fact that an ancestor of Prophet Muhammad pbuh by that name was very generous. He would make the bread and then actually “break” it and serve it with gravy to everyone generously, and thus Hashim came to mean “generous”

Explanation: What is the reality of life of a person? A child is born, he grows up, develops emotions, gains mastery on things and collects all the items of the world, both material and children and family. Eventually everyone leaves and goes their own ways, especially when the elders (parents) die the homes that were once filled with material goods, family, friends scatter and all the material things fall apart and the same house that was once lush with goods and people, becomes empty, scattered with nothing of substance left.

Surah Younus: 10:24 The likeness of the life of the present is as the rain which We send down from the skies: by its mingling arises the produce of the earth― which provides food for men and animals: (it grows) till the earth is clad with its golden ornaments and is decked out (in beauty): the people to whom it belongs think they have all powers of disposal over it: there reaches it Our command by night or by day, and We make it like a harvest clean-mown, as if it had not flourished only the day before! Thus do We explain the Signs in detail for those who reflect.

Surah Hadid: 57:20  Know ye (all), that the life of this world is but play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting and multiplying, (in rivalry) among yourselves, riches and children: Here is a similitude: how rain and the growth which it brings forth, delight (the hearts of) the tillers; soon it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then it becomes dry and crumbles away. But in the Hereafter is a Penalty severe (for the devotees of wrong) And Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the devotees of Allah). And what is the life of this world, but goods and chattels of deception? (20)
END TAFSEER:

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND POINTS OF ACTION

What I learnt from this was:

  1. Collecting items for the house to show and decorate and being overly attached to children and family more than one’s attachment to Allah and the remembrance of the FINAL DAY when all of this will be “Gone with the Wind” is a waste of time and effort.

Does that mean that we should become careless and uncaring of our relationships and our belongings……….No actually it means have less which means more. There fore emphasizing quality rather than quantity and always living in a suitcase knowing that the order to leave may come at any time.

2. Life changes whether we want it to or not. We may be deliriously happy and it will change and we may despondent and sad and it will change…
