SUMMARY TAWHEED HALAQA : 6 given by Dr. HY summarized by Anon

IMAN(Faith) IS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR DEEN.

THE ESSENCE OF IMAN BILLAH (Faith/Belief in Allah) IS TAWHEED (ONLY ALLAH, swt IS MY LORD; ONLY HE, swt IS WORTHY OF UBOODIYYAH; ONLY HE, swt HAS THE INFINITELY PERFECT ATTRIBUTES).

Some sahabah when to RasulAllah, s.a and told him about a certain sahabah who would read surat al Ikhlas frequently in salah. When Rasul Allah, sallaAllahu alayhi wa sallim, asked the sahabah about this – he , r.a replied “I love the description of Allah swt in this surah” RasulAllah,s.a replied “ May the One you love, Love You!”

REFERENCES/PROOFS TOWARDS THE KALIMAH OF TAWHEED- AL QUR’AN

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ             112:1 SAY: “He is ALLAH , The One :
اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ      112:2 “ALLAH the Eternal, the Uncaused Cause of All Being
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ        112:3 “He begets not, and neither is He begotten
وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ 112:4 “and there is nothing that could be compared with Him.

BOTTOMLINE MESSAGE OF SURAT AL IKHLAS : ABSOLUTE AFFIRMATION OF ALLAH SWT’s UNIQUENESS, ONENESS AND EXALTEDNESS – INCOMPARABLE TO ANY CREATION.

The one who believes this , testifies to this and lives this is a MUWAHHID.

The one whose heart rejects this and actions are contrary to this is not a Muwahhid. EXAMPLE :

وقال تعالى :  وَإِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَحْدَهُ وَلَّوْاْ عَلَى أَدْبَارِهِمْ نُفُوراً

17:46: AND WHEN YOU MAKE MENTION OF YOUR LORD ALONE IN THE QUR’AN – THEY TURN THEIR BACKS IN AVERSION.

قال تعالى : وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ اشْمَأَزَّتْ قُلُوبُ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

بِالْآخِرَةِ وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ الَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ

39:45: And when Allah ALONE is mentioned, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are repelled, and when those (whom they worship) beside Him are mentioned, behold! they are glad.

وقال تعالى : ذَلِكُم بِأَنَّهُ إِذَا دُعِيَ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ كَفَرْتُمْ وَإِن يُشْرَكْ بِهِ تُؤْمِنُوا فَالْحُكْمُ لِلَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْكَبِير

40:12: (The answer will be:) “This is because when Allah was invoked as the ONLY (object of worship), ye did reject Faith, but when partners were joined to Him, ye believed! The command is with Allah, Most High, Most Great!”

We as muslims believe in the above but we fall short in our levels of Tawheed when we have in our hearts along with Him, swt other than Him –  in our attachments, our reliance, our hopes &fears, our obedience, our love, our submission and solace.

I need to reflect on the above Ayaat and watch my heart – when there are two choices, when there are two callers – which one does my heart instinctively move towards ??? Allah, swt’s call &company, pleasure and obedience or the call & company and obedience of the creation/my nafs 

REFERENCES/PROOFS TOWARDS THE KALIMAH OF TAWHEED- AL HADITH

عن ابن عباس :ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم لما بعث معاذا رضي الله عنه نحو اليمن قال له : (( إنك تقدم على قوم من اهل الكتاب فليكن أول ما تدعوهم إلى أن يوحدوا الله تعالى))

Related by Ibn Abbas (Radhi Allahu anhuma) RasulAllah (Salla Allahu alayhi wa sallim) when he sent Muadh (Radhi Allahu anhu) to Yemen, said “ Verily you are going forth to a community of the People of the Book – Therefore let the first of what you call them towards be that they affirm the Oneness of Allah Ta’ala”.

Therefore the first call and response in the journey to Allah ,swt is Tawheed of Allah swt alone and worship Him alone

و عن طارق بن أشيم قال : سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم يقول : ”من وحّد الله تعالى و كفر بما يعبد من دونه حرم ماله و دمه و حسابه على الله عز و جلّ“

And related by Tariq bin Asheem : “I heard RasulAllah say: “The One who affirms the Oneness of Allah Ta’ala and rejects whatever is worshipped beside Him, his wealth and blood is inviolable and his accounting is with Allah, azza wa Jal”.

Therefore if I desire Amn – security in life and belongings – I need to Affirm Allah swt’s Oneness alone and negate obedience/worship of anything else.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

فالتوحيد هو الأساس الذي تُبنى عليه جميع الأعمال، وبدون تحققه لا تصحُ جميعُ الأعمال

  1. 1. THEREFORE  TAWHEED IS THE FOUNDATION ON WHICH IS BUILT ALL ACTIONS,  AND WITHOUT THE REALITY OF TAWHEED  ACTIONS ARE NOT SOUND.

أعظم ما أمر الله به التوحيد، وكل العبادات تبنى عليه صحة وفسادًابيّن ذلك من خلال الأدلة التالية:

  1. 2. THE GREATEST COMMAND OF ALLAH SWT IS THE COMMAND TO TAWHEED – FOR THE SOUNDNESS OF ANY ACTION IS BASED ON IT –

وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ حُنَفَاء وَيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَذَلِكَ دِينُ الْقَيِّمَةِ

98:5 And they were not enjoined aught but that they should worship Allah, sincere in their faith in Him alone, turning away from all that is false;  and that they should be constant in prayer; and that they should spend in charity: for this is a moral law endowed with ever-true soundness and clarity

وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّاNO EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE : WORSHIP ALLAH, swt ALONE, IN ALL SINCERITY , TURNING AWAY FROM ALL THIS IS IMMORAL !!!

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

2:183 O YOU who have attained to faith! Fasting is ordained for you as it was ordained for those before you, so that you might remain conscious of Allah:

The command to fast is an obligation only on those who have attained IMAN in Allah – i.e the MUWAHHID

وَلِلّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلاً وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ الله غَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ

3:97  Hence, pilgrimage unto the House is a duty owed to Allah by all people who are able to undertake it. And as for those who deny the truth – verily, Allah does not stand in need of anything in all the worlds

All acts of worship are therefore for Allah swt alone.

فمقصود العبادات:

الخضوع لله، والتوجه إليه، والتذلل بين يديه، والانقياد تحت حكمه، وعمارة القلب بذكره؛ حتى يكون العبد حاضرًا مع الله بجوارحه، ومراقبًا له غير غافل عنه، وأن يكون ساعيًا في مرضاته، وما يقرب إليه حسب طاقته.

  1. 3. AIM/GOALS OF ‘IBADAH
  • Humility and Abasement to Allah,swt
  • Orientation to Allah,swt
  • Complete submission to His commands
  • Heart preoccupied in Allah swt’s Dhikr until the limbs serve Him as if they are in His presence
  • Constant  awareness of  Allah swt’s watchfulness over the heart
  • Avoiding Heedlessness always
  • Constant striving for His, swt’s pleasure
  • Seeking to draw near to Him,swt with the best of one’s ability

THEREFORE I REFLECT ON MY SALAH,MY ZAKAT, MY SAWM, MY HAJJ, MY DHIKR, MY ACTS OF OBEDIANCE. ARE THEY FULFILLING THE ABOVE GOALS OF IBADAH ???

AZ ZAKAAT – – الزكـاة

هي تطهير النفس من الشح والبخل متقربًا إلى الله بإخراج شيء من ماله المحبوب إليه.

  • AZ ZAKAT IS THEREFORE PURIFICATION OF ONES NAFS FROM COVETOUSNESS AND MISERLINESS – LEADING TO NEARNESS OF ALLAH, SWT IF ONE GIVES WHOLEHEARTEDLY OF WHAT ONE LOVES, SEEKING ALLAH,SWT’S PLEASURE.

AL HAJJ – – الحـج

هو بذل النفس والنفيس من النفقات ومفارقة الأهل والأوطان طاعة لله تعالى وشوقًا إليه ومحبةً له.

  • AL HAJJ IS SPENDING OF WEALTH, PHYSICAL EFFORT AND SEPERATION FROM FAMILY AND HOME ALL DONE IN A SPIRIT OF OBEDIANCE TO ALLAH,SWT’S COMMAND AND LOVE AND LONGING FOR HIM ALONE

AS SAWM – -الصوم

هو ترك ما تهوى النفس مع قدرته عليها، لعلمه باطلاع الله عليه، طلبًا لرضا الله

  • AS SAWM IS DEPRIVING THE NAFS OF WHAT IT LOVES OF WHAT IT HAS – SEEKING THE PLEASURE OF ALLAH,SWT.

AS SALAH – – الصلاة

هي صلة بين العبد وربه، وتذكر العبد بدوام مراقبة الله فيحسن باطنه كما يحسن ظاهره.

  • AS SALAH IS BETWEEN AN ‘ABD AND HIS RABB, WHEN HE IS CONSTANTLY WATCHFUL OVER HIS HEART, AWARE OF HIS RABB, BEAUTIFYING ONES INNER IMAGE FOR HIS LORD’S WATCHFUL SIGHT

ودرجة قبول الأعمال بحسب ما في القلب من توحيد

  1. 4. ACCEPTANCE OF DEEDS IS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE LEVEL OF TAWHEED IN THE HEART

. قال حسان ابن عطية: ” إن الرجلين ليكونان في الصلاة الواحدة وإن بينهما كما بين السماء والأرض ..“.لأن أحدهما صلى مخلصًا لله والآخر دخل في نيته أحد غير الله.

1.HASSAN BIN ‘ATIYYAH SAID :”TWO MEN ARE PRAYING TOGETHER IN SALAH, YET BETWEEN THEM IS LIKE BETWEEN THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH…”FOR ONE PRAYS KHALISAN(PURELY) FOR ALLAH AND THE OTHER HAS CONTAMINATED HIS NIYYAH WITH OTHERS.

One heart filled with ilm of his Rabb is, eager to draw close to Him,swt, longing to meet Him, swt, full of love and reverence of Him swt, cannot wait to leave the activities of dunyaa to enter into sujood VERSUS a heart preoccupied with dunyaa and nafsani pursuits. WHAT AN INFINITE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE TWO !!!

2. الركب كثير والحجاج قليل. لأن القليل من الحجاج من يخلص حجهُ لله، والباقين يشوب نيتهم أغراض أخرى

2.   MANY ARE THOSE WHO TRAVEL TO HAJJ, BUT FEW ARE THOSE WHO PERFORM HAJJ. FOR ONLY A FEW PERFORM HAJJ KHALISAN –  ONLY FOR ALLAH,SWT WHILE THE OTHERS HAVE OTHER FACTORS MOTIVATING THEIR NIYYAH

Most of us travel on Hajj, distracted by each other, focused on comforts of dunya and complaining incessantly on minor discomforts to our nafs – Labbayk Allahumma labbayk stops at the tongue, never reaches the heart or reflected by the limbs.Yet there are a precious few whose orientation, focus, preoccupaqtion and goal is ALLAH, swt alone from the beginning to the end – these are the REAL HUJJAJ!!!

قوله تعالى مثل الذين ينفقون أموالهم في سبيل الله كمثل حبة أنبتت سبعة سنابل في كل سنبلة مئة حبة والله يضاعف لمن يشاء والله واسع عليم ( سورة البقرة: الآية 261)

المضاعفة تكون لمن أخلص نيته لله وحده، ومن شابت نيته أغراض أخرى نقص من أجره بقدر ما يشوب نيته.

3. Allah, Ta’ala says : The parable of those who spend their possessions for the sake of Allah,swt is that of a grain out of which grow seven ears, in every ear a hundred grains : for Allah grants manifold increase unto whom He wills; and Allah is Infinite, All-Knowing. 2 : 261

For the one who gives expecting nothing but Allah swt’s pleasure and in the way of Allah swt – Allah swt promises multifold reward. i.e –the greater the level of Tawheed and Ikhlas – the greater the acceptability and reward of a deed !!!

I need to watch my heart before, during and after a deed – is it saleem – full of Allah swt alone or is it murky with other images? The cleaner and clearer the heart – the purer the intention and truer the deed – the higher the reward.

  1. 5. HOW DO I LIVE TAWHEED ?
  • I BEGIN BY LEARNING THE FOLLOWING :

ONLY ALLAH swt IS PERFECT IN ALL HIS ATTIBUTES

ONLY ALLAH swt CREATED ME

ONLY HE swt OWNS ME

ONLY HE swt GIVES ME

  • I CONTINUE IN MUCH REFLECTION ( Tafakkur) OF THE MANIFEST SIGNS OF ALLAH SWT IN THE UNIVERSE AND PONDERING (Tadabbur) ON THE AYAAT OF THE QUR’AN, THUS STRIVING TO BE IN A STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND REMEMBRANCE (Dhikr)OF HIM,swt

اللهم اجعلنا من الذين يستمعون القول فيتبعون أحسنه

    Alhamdulillah as Muslims we know about the basics of Islam but.. let me share something…I was not a reader of books or articles…but then I started visiting your blog & no doubt your way to convey knowledge is very simple, friendly, inspiring especially for teenagers like me…I don’t know how it affected me but now whenever I open IE the first URL I type daily is of your blog & with the mercy of Allah now I love to read Tafseer-e-Quran, Hadith and Shukar Alhmadulillah I am becoming more keen to know about Islam……. You know after reading about Allah’s blessings, warning, I am feeling a change that whatever I am doing I stops for a while & think…will it please Allah?…….you can say I am just a learner, a beginner…trying to train my Nafs according to Islam…& through all this I am accepting that you do have a part in that…

    I agree with NS, you can collect these posts in a book & its name can be the same as siraat-e-Mustaqeem. Moreover you can divide the book in chapters according to their categories.

    As far as readers of book are concerned, insha Allah they will the regular readers of this blog🙂
