TAWHEED: The Two Branches of Deen Part I

IMAN – Faith is also defined in a certain order by RasulAllah, sallahu alayhi wa sallim – WHY???

THE BEGINNING OF Iman is Faith in Allah swt’s – Existence, His Ruboobiyyah, His Uloohiyyah and His Asmaa  and Sifaat. When this is a reality in the heart : THEN –

Believing in the existence Of Angels – His creation,

Believing in The Books that the angel brings down to the Messengers,

Believing in the Messengers chosen to deliver the Message,

Believing in The Day of Judgement and

Believing in the Decree of Allah, swt is a natural consequence.

WHAT IS THE ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCE IN THE BELIEFS OF MUSLIMS AND THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK ?

THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK BELIEVE IN ALLAH SWT’S EXISTENCE, IN HIS RUBOOBIYYAH, IN HIS ULOOHIYYAH AND IN HIS PERFECT NAMES AND ATTRIBUTES – BUT THEY DIFFER IN ACTIVELY AFFIRMING HIS ONENESS(WAHDAANIYYAH) AND UNIQUENESS (IFRAAD) IN THE ABOVE.

لا يؤمنون أن الله وحده هو رب و هو الذي يستحق العبادة و له الأسمآء الحسنى

i.e – they take others as capable of having independent powers of Lordship, they submit/obey to others than Allah and they ascribe Divine qualities to other than Him,swt.

TAWHEED IS THE REALITY/ESSENCE/CORE OF IMAN IN ALLAH SWT

LINGUISTICALLY – TAWHEED IS THE ACTIVE AFFIRMATION OF ALLAH SWT’S ONENESS WITH ABSOLUTE NEGATION OF ANYONE/THING ELSE DESERVING OF LORDSHIP, WORSHIP OR PERFECTION IN ATTRIBUTES.

THE THREE BRANCHES OF TAWHEED ARE BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED IN SURAT AL HASHR :

هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ هُوَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ (59:22)

59:22 ALLAH IS HE save whom there is no deity: the One who knows all that is beyond the reach of a created being’s perception, as well as all that can be wit­nessed by a creature’s senses or mind:He,the Most Gracious, the Dispenser of Grace.

هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ (59:23)

59:23 ALLAH is He save whom there is no deity: the Sovereign Supreme, the Holy, the One with whom all salvation rests, the Giver of Faith, the One who determines what is true and false, the Almighty, the One who subdues wrong and restores right, the One to whom all greatness belongs! Utterly remote is ALLAH,in His limitless glory, from anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity!

هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ لَهُ الْأَسْمَاء الْحُسْنَى يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ (59:24)

59:24 He is ALLAH, the Creator, the Maker who shapes all forms and appearances! His [alone] are the attributes of perfection.All that is in the heavens and on earth extols His limitless glory: for He alone is almighty, truly wise!

TAWHEED UR RUBOOBIYYAH : هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ : ALLAH is He save whom there is no deity

TAWHEED UL ULOOHIYYAH : يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ : All that is in the heavens and on earth extols His limitless glory

TAWHEED UL ASMAA’WA SIFAAT :

هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّر : the Sovereign Supreme, the Holy, the One with whom all salvation rests, the Giver of Faith, the One who determines what is true and false, the Almighty, the One who subdues wrong and restores right, the One to whom all greatness belongs

الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ لَهُ الْأَسْمَاء الْحُسْنَى : the Creator, the Maker who shapes all forms and appearances! His [alone] are the attributes of perfection

وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ : for He alone is almighty, truly wise!
