THE INVISIBLE VEIL (Hijaab an mastoora)………..17:45

Surah Al Isra 17:45

And when thou recitest the Qur’an we place between thee and those who believe not in the Hereafter a hidden barrier; (45)

TAFSEER BY DR. FARHAT HASHMI (translated from urdu)

When you recite the word of Allah, He places a veil between those who recite and those who obstinately do not want to hear, or think about the message of the Quran, and stubbornly blatantly deny the oneness of Allah, because they are so involved with other things, which is something they do not want to have challenged

Asma bint Abubakr……..related a Riwayah

The Surah Lahab was being recited and repeated all over Makkah.

Umm e Jameel wife of Abu Lahab found out that someone was reciting this (hajar which is a disprespectful lampoon or poem) about her husband and said it was a lampoon, and became very angry.

She picked up the large pestle which is used for crushing grains and came to the Haram in search of the perpetrators of what she considered a derogatory lampoon of her husband. She was livid.

AbuBakr was alarmed at her attitude and said to RasoolAllah (pbuh) that she is going to harm you

RasoolAllah (pbuh) said don’t worry and started reciting the Quran

She came and started to speak to Abu Bakr as if she did not see Prophet Muhammad pbuh sitting next to him…….

“Your colleague and friend has done hajar (lampooning)about my husband” said Umm e Jameel.

Abu Bakr swore upon the owner of the House (Kaaba) that Muhammad pbuh had not made up this poem/lampoon. This was the truth; Surah Lahab are the words of Allah.

She then very arrogantly read a poem that was downright denying Allah and his Deen in a very arrogant and threatening manner.

She left saying “Quraish knows that I am the wife of the chief and no one dare perform Hajar on us”

This demonstrates the power and arrogance of the Quraish women.

In leaving his (pbuh) house for migration he left reciting these ayahs of Surah Yaseen:

:Wal jal na min bayni ayedihim sadoou ,wa min khafayhim sadaan fa aghsaynahum fa hum la youbsaroon.

and no one saw him as he walked out of the house right infront of the eyes of the men who had surrounded the house with the intent to kill him, when he came out for Fajr Salah

Also in Surah Kahf: We have veiled their hearts and their ears are heavy.

When Quran was recited to the Quraish they would say, “You can recite as much as you like, our hearts are veiled.

People of the book also said “ our hearts are wrapped in layers and your recitation does not affect us” referred to as  “Ghulf” in surah baqarah

When one does not want to hear, (lack of open mindedness or blocked by hatred) one turns oneself off to what the other person saying………that is what the Quraish kafirs did when the Quran was recited to them.

End tafseer;

In Summary my take:

Here are some of the protective aspects of the Quran:

The word of God can do all of the following as is evidenced in the Quran so far:

  1. It can open our eyes and bring us out of Ghafala if we approach His words in a curious manner to discover Him though his signs
  2. It can protect us. ……Such as when we recite the four Quls to protect us from adversarial intentions and people
  3. It can veil the eyes of those who have actively made up their mind to deny it.
  4. It can drop a veil between the one reciting the Quran and one who has a mal intent against a momin
  5. It can get rid of the affects of black magic

Allah knows best.
