Yusuf (AS) addresses his father with affectionate respect. Ya abatti which is an endearing and respectful manner.
He values and respects his father’s wisdom and thus approaches him to ask his advice about a dream.
Contrast that to the etiquette of Yusuf AS brothers. They begin by saying “ O Father “ no affectionate term attached to it, and then go on to accuse him and I paraphrase “you are not going to trust us no matter what we do”.
Behind his back they remark that their father is ignorant and is unaware of reality and of their abilities and strength. They address him with a very basic “father” no affectionate manner and bare bones respect.
Dedicated to my niece who addresses her father as AbaaT, without being prompted. Alhamdollilah!
May Allah Subhanawataala bless her and her parents.
