The Dawn of ASHURA

A Contribution from a friend:
I woke up this morning
bright and early
as planned.
what a marvelous feeling,
after the scatteredness of yesterday.
a quiet joyness and peace
no rush or flurry ;
to fast :
the day Allah liberated Moses
drowning the Evil
A day Adam and Eve found
each other on earth
when their tears begot
Forgiveness from one up High.
So Kind Gracious Allah
I plead to Thee :
the sereneness I feel
to stay with me
I’m engulfed in the
warm embrace of these
hours before dawn
keep me focused
as the day moves in.

  1. Asalaamoalaikum,
It is reported that when a righteous muslim dies the earth misses him and the heavens cry (rain). Most certainly Imam Husein was one of the righteous, and the heavens cried onto the earth that missed him.
    JazaaikAllah hu Khairan.

  2. Ashura
the day the skies wept blood

It is reported that when Imam Hussein AS was killed not only the residents of the heavens cried for Imam Hussein AS, but even the skies cried for him and they wept blood for this Mazlum. This is reported not only in the Shi’a books but also in the most important Sunny references:

  3. On the Morn of Muharram

Wake up my friends; for the morn of
    Qiama has arrived
It is the month of Muharram
The crescent of grief has appeared
The month of mourning has arrived 5
Muharram is the month of tears
Muharram is the month of blood
    Bodies are shredded
And the desert is a garden of blood
The crescent of grief has appeared 10
The month of mourning has arrived
The creation is sad and in mourning
    It is the month:
    When Husain was martyred
When the eyes of ‘Ali shed blood 15
The crescent of grief has appeared
The month of mourning has arrived
Husain sacrificed for thee path of Islam
His head is on the spear
His body is on the ground 20
The crescent of grief has appeared
The month of mourning has arrived
The arms of ‘Abbas were cut in this month
The three-edged arrow settled in the
    parched throat of little Asghar
