LEAVE THOSE WHO MAKE FUN OF DEEN 6:70

Developing strength in Deen

Developing strength in Deen

Surah Al Anaam 6:70
Leave alone those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim (to them) this (truth): that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: it will find for itself no protector or intercessor except Allah. if it offered every ransom, (or reparation), none will be accepted: such is (the end of) those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: they will have for drink (only) boiling water, and for punishment, one most grievous: for they persisted in rejecting Allah.

Wathari allatheena ittakhathoo deenahum laAAiban walahwan wagharrathumu alhayatu alddunya wathakkir bihi an tubsala nafsun bima kasabat laysa laha min dooni Allahi waliyyun wala shafeeAAun wain taAAdil kulla AAadlin la yukhath minha olaika allatheena obsiloo bima kasaboo lahum sharabun min hameemin waAAathabun aleemun bima kanoo yakfuroona

TAFSEER (translated from Farhat Hashmi’s Taleem ul Quran)
Those who have a non-serious attitude toward Deen which becomes a way o life, and a just a point of fun & enjoyment and do not actually follow it, leave such people.

Why do people do this? It is because they have all the naimahs (benefits/blessings) in this world and do not give attention or importance to Deen or its amal (action). They think this is the end point and just mention Deen to make fun of Deen.

Allah SWT instructs Prophet Muhammad PBUH and us to give such people some advice gently, but if they do not heed then to leave them.

These people are going to answer for their own actions

Outcome of Ayah:
Those people, who do not take their Deen seriously and make fun of it, do not sit with them for fun and entertainment, but only to cooperate in good works or to give them advice and encourage them to be on the right path.

Those who are so involved in dunya and running after it, leave them also,

ADVICE: To improve my Deen, I should look up to someone better than me and for being satisfied with what Dunya I have, look at those below me or those who have less than me.

Continue to do Nasihah (advice for the right path) maybe they might learn, because they may be caught in something terrible, There will be no intercessor or protector except Allah, they reap what they earned.

However Khair Kwahi or good will is to continue.

If someone has done bad deeds families cut him or her off.  In this ayah total cutoff is not to be done, nasiya has to be done on an ongoing basis.
Wa la kin Zikra……………..where we have to save ourself but we also have to help them

MAY ALLAH SWT ACCEPT OUR EFFORTS IN INCULCATING DEEN IN OUR LIVES

6:159 THOSE WHO BREAK UP RELIGION INTO SECTS……

June 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

6:159 As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: their affair is with Allah. He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did.

Inna allatheena farraqoo deenahum wakanoo shiyaAAan lasta minhum fee shayin innama amruhum ila Allahi thumma yunabbiohum bima kanoo yafAAaloona

6:159

Tafseer by Farhat Hashmi and The retreat :

Allah SWT says to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and then the message is for us: Those who have broken the unity of the faith, you have nothing to do with them.

Hadith:
The sects: defined as people who invent innovations, these were people who went astray Those people who separated their Deen into pieces i.e. sections, left the main path (Siraat Mustaqeem) and went into those branching paths. (Narrated by Abu Huraira)

Allah (SWT) commands our Prophet PBUH in this ayah that you are not from those people. These people will be dealt with on the Day of Judgment, Allah SWT will tell them about their actions of breaking up their Deen into sections.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said (hadith narrated by: Ghuaba bin Yaamaan) “Stick to the Jamaat al Muslimeen and their Imaam”, I asked, “What if there is no Jamaat and no Imaam?” He said then stay away from all these sects even if you have to eat the roots of a tree (to stay alive), until you die”

In another Hadith Prophet Muhammad PBUH said:
Verily the people of the book before you were divided into 72 sects, this Ummah will be divided into 73……..All will go into ‘The Fire’ except one: (those who follow the Sunnah and are on the right path)

This division of sects is referring to the division of Aqeedah, not minor things

Those who have left the main path of the Deen and divided it into sects and groups based on their personal desires, who separate from the main Deen because of their own personal aspirations, these people should not be followed nor given support by being with them.

Those who have left what has been taught (in this surah) who follow actions based on things other than what the Messenger taught should be avoided.
Elsewhere in the Quran this is referenced as:

003.105
YUSUFALI: Be not like those who are divided amongst themselves and fall into disputations after receiving Clear Signs: For them is a dreadful penalty,-

Discussion:
Why does one leave the main path of the Deen?
1. Following personal desires
2. Blindly following what the majority is doing (easier to follow the crowd)
3. Following ancestors behavior and actions (comfort of familiarity)
4. Arrogance and stubbornness (Dictates of the Nafs)
5. Protect material and personal capital (Being selfish)
6. Fear of People rather than Allah (Shirk)
7. Blindly following other people’s recommendations of Deen without knowledge. (Ignorance)
8. Difficulty in following the stipulations of the Deen (laziness and lack of self discipline or ignorance based on lack of education of the Message of Allah, the Quran)

Here the people who are being referred are those who have been given Allah’s signs

Prophet Muhammad PBUH had made some predictions about the conflict that occurred in Muslims after his death.
He said, “He who lives after me will see a major conflict. In that case it becomes mandatory upon you follow my Sunnah and the Sunnah of Khulafa Rashideen”

Reasons for formation of Sects:
1. Aggrandizement of ones Self, ones lineage and ones personal gain, thus letting go of portions of the Deen that interferes with these goals.
2. Love of dunya, money, power (Jah), Nafs, and personal desires.

Hadith:
Love of power and money destroys ones imaan more than two hungry wolves let loose in a herd of sheep.

THE GOAL:
Whenever making a decision for action use the following guidelines:
1. I have to do all those actions which are beneficial for my Akhirah and my Deen
2. I have to give up all those actions, which will interfere with my Akhirah and with my Deen.
In a case of making any decision even if two things are equal, tip the decision based on the above.

Delayed gratification will prepare us for Jannah.

Shaytaan tempts us to get immediate gratification, thus taking us away from the Deen.

When making decisions in Groups such as Family & Organizations
Ask the question: Will this action help the Deen?

Any work if done for personal gain will never make continuous progress, only those actions or programs done while keeping the above goals, will gain success. It also avoids petty infighting, feeling of injustice, jealousies, and divisions within the group and adversarial interactions.
End of tafseer.

My take:
In this world there are people who are governed by desires: basic desires such as food, sex, and need for a family or more predatory desires such as power, subjugation and arrogance. Other desires that hold a sway on personal decisions are based on fear, usually of a person on an Institution or an Organization.

In so many ways this ayah frees us from the yoke of all the little masters who want to hold us in a small prison. Allah SWT in this ayah frees us to be answerable to the One and Only Master.

In the interim as we change loyalty from the many little ones, head of sects etc to the One and Only the little ones may try to punish us and at first they may even succeed superficially, but Allah SWT promises retribution for them in this ayah. He promises shade on the Day of Judgment and from the blazing fire in the Hereafter for those who changed their loyalties from the many little masters to the One and Only Jalayjalalahu.

Allah Knows best!

HOW ARE YOU MAKING YOUR DECISIONS?

STARS 6:97

June 15, 2008 · 2 Comments

6:97 It is He Who maketh the stars (as beacons) for you, that ye may guide yourselves, with their help, through the dark spaces of land and sea: We detail Our signs for people who know.

Wahuwa allathee jaAAala lakumu alnnujooma litahtadoo biha fee thulumati albarri waalbahri qad fassalna alayati liqawmin yaAAlamoona

Tafseer by Farhat Hashmi (translated)

He made stars to give us direction and guidance.
Surah Nahl: 16.016
And marks and sign-posts; and by the stars (men) guide themselves.

Allah gives direction with stars. Elsewhere in the Quran, Allah states that He (SWT) has decorated the worldly skies with stars.
In Surah Mulk Allah SWT says:
067.005: And we have, (from of old), adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps, and We have made such (Lamps) (as) missiles to drive away the Evil Ones, and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

He has made Stars to hit the Shaitans, and Stars to guide us on the ground and in the seas.

Allah SWT chose the moon to calculate the timings of some of our ibadaat (worship) such as the timings for fasting, and the stars to guide us for direction on this earth at night.

We have separated out the details of these signs for those who have ilm, or want to gain ilm. Those who have read the Quran but have not understood it in detail one by one opening up our minds with our understanding of the sequence of understanding.

Thus like the guidance of the stars…….the Quran is useful to those people who make the effort to learn and understand the Quran, and are thus guided by it.

What goes through your mind when you see the stars?

WHY WERE THE NIGHT & DAY CREATED? 6:96

June 13, 2008 · 1 Comment

6:96 He it is that cleaveth the day-break (from the dark): He makes the night for rest and tranquillity, and the sun and moon for the reckoning (of time): Such is the judgment and ordering of (Him), the Exalted in Power, the Omniscient.

Faliqu alisbahi wajaAAala allayla sakanan waalshshamsa waalqamara husbanan thalika taqdeeru alAAazeezi alAAaleem

Tafseer: (Translated from Farhat Hashmi’s Taleem ul Quran)

He has made the night for sakoon (peace, comfort, solace) and the day is with light

In Surah Qasas:.Allah AWT says:
It is out of His Mercy that He has made for you Night and Day,- that ye may rest therein, and that ye may seek of his Grace;- and in order that ye may be grateful.
Thus it is His mercy that he made day and night so we can rest in the night and in the day earn Allah’s fadal.

He made the sun and the moon to calculate time. (in days, months and years)

Allah has made all this and He is Exalted in power (Al Aziz) and Al Aleem (one who is Omniscient and has continuous knowledge)

Surah Qamar: 54.049
Verily, all things have We created in proportion and measure.
“Everything in the universe has been made with precise calculation, speed, size, speed, direction etc “

My Take: The human intellect is limited and we learn things by observation, deduction and understanding. In this ayah Allah SWT is asking us to use our intellect to see and understand that the perfect coordination of the night and day and how our body needs that diurnal variation can come only from one source, and that is our ONE Creator.

How do you spend your night? How often on the internet? :)

NOT “MUHAMMAD’S (PBUH) MESSAGE”, BUT ALLAHS MESSAGE 6:50

June 11, 2008 · 5 Comments

6:50 Say: “I tell you not that with me are the treasures of Allah, nor do I know what is hidden, nor do I tell you I am an angel. I but follow what is revealed to me.” Say: “can the blind be held equal to the seeing?” Will ye then consider not?

Qul la aqoolu lakum AAindee khazainu Allahi wala aAAlamu alghayba wala aqoolu lakum innee malakun in attabiAAu illa ma yooha ilayya qul hal yastawee alaAAma waalbaseeru afala tatafakkaroona

Tafseer (translated portions from Farhat Hashmi)

Qul? What is the wisdom? Why does Allah Subhanawataala particularly say this to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to say, to present the message to people.
Tell them that I do not have the treasures (khazana (plural) i.e. rizq (sustenance) and all the things that Allah has and gives to his abd) of Allah.

Tell them: (Allah is commanding Prophet Muhammad PBUH to tell the Quraish of Mecca) I do not have the powers of Allah and nor do I know the unseen.

What is The Unseen (Ghaib)?
Unseen is defined as everything that is not present. There are two types of unseen:
1. ”nisbi, which is ghaib for some and not for others, i.e. it is apparent to some and not to others e.g. the car on another road that one person cannot see but someone else can..
2. mutlaq or ghaib ae haqiqi i.e. angels, jannah, etc. Only Allah has knowledge of Ghaib, some of it He shares with His messengers (seeing Gabriel by prophet Muhammad approved by the Aizm of Allah SWT.
Eg one dreams and it comes true, it is not due to our own effort, it is because of Allah ism Dreams are 1/40 of Naboowat.
No one knows the Hour (Qiyamat) this is ilm e Ghaib.

Prophet Muhammad is being commanded to say: “Nor do I say that I am an angel, nor do I follow anything other than what is given to me a wahi (revelation), (Allah’s message in private given to the messengers).”
Qul “Can a seeing person (momin) and a blind man (The kafir is mentioned earlier in the Quran as summun, bookmun, umyun) be the same”
So won’t you do reflect?
SUMMARY
1. Nabi does not have Allah’s treasures (All the benefits that Allah gives to the human beings are His treasures)
2. The Nabi does not have knowledge of the ghaib (unseen)
3. The Nabi is not an angel
4. Kafir and Momin are not the same.
5. The message is for the people to reflect

My take:

The people especially of Mecca were recalcitrant to the message of Allah via Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Thus in this Ayah of Tawheed Allah SWT commands Prophet Muhammad PBUH to declare to the disbelieving Meccans that this message he (PBUH) is giving is not from him but from Allah SWT.

6:93.WHO LIES ABOUT ALLAH & WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM?

June 3, 2008 · 4 Comments

6:93 Who can be more wicked than one who inventeth a lie against Allah, or saith, “I have received inspiration,” when he hath received none, or (again) who saith, “I can reveal the like of what Allah hath revealed”? If thou couldst but see how the wicked (do fare) in the flood of confusion at death! – the angels stretch forth their hands, (saying),”Yield up your souls: this day shall ye receive your reward,- a penalty of shame, for that ye used to tell lies against Allah, and scornfully to reject of His signs!”

Waman athlamu mimmani iftara AAala Allahi kathiban aw qala oohiya ilayya walam yooha ilayhi shayon waman qala saonzilu mithla ma anzala Allahu walaw tara ithi alththalimoona fee ghamarati almawti waalmalaikatu basitoo aydeehim akhrijoo anfusakumu alyawma tujzawna AAathaba alhooni bima kuntum taqooloona AAala Allahi ghayra alhaqqi wakuntum AAan ayatihi tastakbiroona

Tafseer by Farhat Hashmi (translated)

A Dhalim is defined as someone who usurps other peoples rights and in doing so gives up his own.

In this Ayah Allah SWT says: “Who is a bigger Dhalim except one who invents lies about Allah” e.g. the Arabs in that era named some animals on the name of some Gods.

Who is a Dhalim?. One who invents and attributes things to Allah that Allah (SWT) has never said. The person who says that I have received revelation (fake self proclaimed Prophets) and this includes also that person who states that he can bring that which Allah has revealed.

Who can be more Dhalim than one who makes up lies about Allah?
Who lies about Allah?
1. One who attributes things about Allah that Allah has not made (lies about what Allah said)
2. Someone who lies and says he has received a revelation (fake Naboowat)
3. One who states that he will reveal a similar book like Allah did (fake Quran)

These are lies against Allah, and these are signs of a major criminal (Dhalim)

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THESE DHALIMS?
If you could see when these dhalims are close to death, the scene of death will be severe and horrific. When they will be in a state of death and when their souls will be removed harshly by the angels of death who will be reaching out to yank out life from them. it will be a painful and dreadful time for them. and they will be helpless and unable to desist.

The angels will say ‘You will have retribution for your actions with a demeaning and severe penalty (emotional and physical) because you used to tell lies and you used to be arrogant about yourself and tried to bring yourself above Allah and were scornful of Allah’s words and were demeaning about Allah’s words.

PAIN & AGONY
For such arrogant people who lie, their pain and agony will begin at the time of death, As described in Surah Muhammad the angels of death will actually strike them on their faces and backs and this agony will continue on and on……

Lesson: we have to think and check what we say about Allah SWT and tHis (SWT) word, the Quran.

What do you do when you meet someone who fits the above definition of dhalim?

THE THREE STAGES TO REACH TAQWA 6:152

June 1, 2008 · 2 Comments

6:152 And come not nigh to the orphan’s property, except to improve it, until he attain the age of full strength; give measure and weight with (full) justice;- no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear;- whenever ye speak, speak justly, even if a near relative is concerned; and fulfil the covenant of Allah. thus doth He command you, that ye may remember.

Wala taqraboo mala alyateemi illa biallatee hiya ahsanu hatta yablugha ashuddahu waawfoo alkayla waalmeezana bialqisti la nukallifu nafsan illa wusAAaha waitha qultum faiAAdiloo walaw kana tha qurba wabiAAahdi Allahi awfoo thalikum wassakum bihi laAAallakum tathakkaroona

Tafseer by Farhat Hashmi:
Allah Subhanawataala in the last part of this ayah states that the commandments he has given in this and the earlier ayah are His (SWT) wasiyaat nama (A document left behind for mankind to follow for their own good)

He (SWT) says in the last part of the ayah: Wasaakum! Wasaakum! wasaakum! This is Allah’s Wasiyah Naama or Takeedi hokum.

There are three stages of Learning, the final goal being taqwa.
Stage I: Taakeyloon : Use your intellect,
Stage II: Tazakiroon: Exercise your intellect and learn the lessons (from The Book) and deduce the truth from it.
Stage III: Tattaqoon: is the final goal. Act on the truth; use what you have learnt in the Book, to modulate your actions of daily life.

My take: After listening to the tafseer of the two ayahs (151-152) outlining the ten commandments from Allah, I realized that just reading the translation of the Quran is insufficient.

I found that even in one line their can be hidden a wealth of meaning and guidance. On the wings of that realization comes regret that I never learnt Arabic and frittered away my time learning other languages instead.

I am then reminded of Prophet Muhammad’s Hadith and I paraphrase” Never look back in regret except to learn from your mistakes, correct them and move on” and so begins my journey in search of a curriculum for Quranic Arabic. Any and all suggestions are welcome in the comment section.

The staging for Learning about Life 101 as outlined by Allah SWT, summarized above makes complete logical sense to me as a human being.
I have to use my intellect to approach the Quran, then sit down and try to understand it and as I do, I have to develop the will power to step by step inculcate it in my life.

Thus a Muslim is always a portrait in progress for he or she is forever trying to finesse into action what he or she has learnt from the Quran and time passes and then life comes to a halt.

THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS:)
Perhaps it is this journey and our attempt to reach the zenith of taqwa is what makes our Lord Allah SWT and us happy:)
If we make life good for others (which is a sure result of following Allah’s commandments: just look at the components) their reflected happiness makes us happy:)

Allah SWT looks down upon us and it makes Him happy that we are all following His (SWT) rules to keep each other happy:)

DELAYED GRATIFICATION
Thus as I see it there is no enforcement of religion, just following the rules He (SWT) outlined and all social and business life falls in place. If we meet resistance, and by following His (SWT) guidelines we loose out in the material world, then He (SWT) assures us His (SWT) reward afterwards.

The question is can we train ourselves for delayed gratification?

CAN WE WAIT FOR OUR REWARDS?

For what He (SWT) gives as a reward will surely outdo all that is offered to me here in dunya. I have to remind myself that often. After all He is Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

How do you delay gratification?

ALL SIGNS LEAD TO ONE GOD 6: 149-150

May 31, 2008 · 1 Comment

6:149 Say: “With Allah is the argument that reaches home: if it had been His will, He could indeed have guided you all.”

Qul falillahi alhujjatu albalighatu falaw shaa lahadakum ajmaAAeena

6:150 Say: “Bring forward your witnesses to prove that Allah did forbid so and so.” If they bring such witnesses, be not thou amongst them: Nor follow thou the vain desires of such as treat our signs as falsehoods, and such as believe not in the Hereafter: for they hold others as equal with their Guardian-Lord.

Qul halumma shuhadaakumu allatheena yashhadoona anna Allaha harrama hatha fain shahidoo fala tashhad maAAahum wala tattabiAA ahwaa allatheena kaththaboo biayatina waallatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati wahum birabbihim yaAAdiloona

Tafseer (Farhat Hashmi)

149: There is no daleel (proof) for Shirk, all daleels are for Tawheed (belief in the continuous oneness of God).
People looked at different things and they started worshipping everything, the sun in the morning and the moon in the evening, the fire on a cold night and so on.
Once people started examining the scientific basis of the universe they realized that the discipline and harmony of the world is because One Creator not two or more is running it.

Allah has shown all the daleels for Tawheed and disproving Shirk, by many types of examples and signs plus examples of past history,
As humans study science they are discovering that all things in the world are in movement and are moving anticlockwise starting with the atom. The entire universe is in harmony from the simplest act of birth and development to the course of the suns and moons.
My take: All the scientific facts that match those mentioned in the Quran are basically a proof from Allah to the human intellect to understand that He and He alone is the Creator and there is no one else who can do what He can and thus we must submit to this truth and worship Him and follow His commands.

IS IT THE TRUTH BECAUSE EVERYONE SAYS SO?
6:150 Bring out your frontline witnesses, those who bear witness that Allah has made those things haraam that they are making haraam, if they give such witness then do not give witness with them and do not follow those who have disbelieved our signs and do not believe in the Day of Judgment and those who bring others equal to your Lord (Shirk).

Kuloo ma saaadiqueen, Follow or support the truthful.
On the Day of Judgment the truthful will reap the benefits of their truthfulness.

Despite the proofs of tawheed given by Allah and presented by our Prophet to the people they do not want to acquiesce, the reason is their nafs and stubborn desires and their arrogant personal views.
Support those who are truthful and do not support those who bring proofs for lies even If they are in majority and all of them agree on the lie. Even if you are the only person left who is upstanding for the truth. Because on the Day of Judgment only the truthful will be rewarded,
Support the truthful, Do not support those who deny Allah’s signs and proofs due to their own desires, their stubbornness to follow their own views and their nafs and do not support those who do not believe in the Day of Judgment.
Lessons of Taqwa:
1. DO NOT SUPPORT THOSE WHO GIVE WITNESS TO LIES EVEN IF THEY ARE IN THE MAJORITY.
2. THOSE WHO DENY THE SIGNS OF ALLAH DO NOT FOLLOW THEIR DESIRES AND WAYS.

May 26, 2008 · 7 Comments

6:151 Say: “Come, I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from”: Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them;- come not nigh to shameful deeds. Whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.
Qul taAAalaw atlu ma harrama rabbukum AAalaykum alla tushrikoo bihi shayan wabialwalidayni ihsanan wala taqtuloo awladakum min imlaqin nahnu narzuqukum waiyyahum wala taqraboo alfawahisha ma thahara minha wama batana wala taqtuloo alnnafsa allatee harrama Allahu illa bialhaqqi thalikum wassakum bihi laAAallakum taAAqiloona

Tafseer taken from Taleem ul Quran by Farhat Hashmi and The Retreat.

This is a wasiyat (A note of guidance left for ones inheritors) from RasoolAllah (PBUH) and has his (PBUH) stamp on it as being given to us by the command of Allah
These ayahs give those commands of Usool e Deen which are found in every monotheist religion and is outlined by every Messenger that came before Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

These rules are the foundation of our Deen,

Allah SWT commands Prophet Muhammad: “Say…. Come”…towards a higher plane, this is in reference to physically as well as spiritually. Someone who is at a higher level is inviting the people at the lower lever upwards “ let me recite to you in such a way that nothing would intervene between you and me”, i.e. read, understand and follow, become so familiar with it so that no strangeness or ambiguity remains between this book and the people to whom it is being recited.
“ What Allah has made haraam on you by your Rab”:

1. Do not make partners with Him (SWT). Whether they are anyone or anything, small or large
Hadith: Do not do shirk (ascribe partners) with Allah even if you are burned or killed, do not join any other with Him (SWT), even if you are thrown in the fire. (e.g. Ibrahim (AS) was thrown in the fire because he declared Allah and only Allah as the only God)
Hadith: If someone dies not having joined partners with Allah he will go straight to Paradise.
And elsewhere in the Quran are reminders of this:
031.015
YUSUFALI: “But if they strive to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them company in this life with justice (and consideration), and follow the way of those who turn to me (in love): in the end the return of you all is to Me, and I will tell you the truth (and meaning) of all that ye did.”
PICKTHAL: But if they strive with thee to make thee ascribe unto Me as partner that of which thou hast no knowledge, then obey them not. Consort with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who repenteth unto Me. Then unto Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what ye used to do –
031.013
YUSUFALI: Behold, Luqman said to his son by way of instruction: “O my son! join not in worship (others) with Allah: for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing.”

2. Treat your parents with Ehsaan Which defined as giving more than the haqq of the person, more than they have a right or more than what they deserve.

3. Do not kill your children for fear of poverty
017.031
YUSUFALI: Kill not your children for fear of want: We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin.

4. Do not go near Favahish: This is a plural for fahashah, defined as an Open/public disobedience or sin, which affects others, i.e. Adultery Zina, do not even go near it, don’t go on that path which might lead you to it. It includes that disobedience which is open or that which is within the heart that one hides from others and one does it in privacy. Examples include envy greed, backbiting, slander, or ill or vicious thoughts of harming others. All these acts are those that we hide from others, and yet indulge in our privacy. (My take is that these thoughts and acts harm us by poisoning our thought processes from the inside and eventually come out in a disastrous manner. This command is aimed to turn the tap off at its source)
Reference from the Quran:
007.033
Say: the things that my Lord hath indeed forbidden are: shameful deeds, whether open or secret; sins and trespasses against truth or reason; assigning of partners to Allah, for which He hath given no authority; and saying things about Allah of which ye have no knowledge.

Hadith: Ayesha RA related that the Prophet of Allah (PBUH ) said
“Allah feels most ghairaat when he sees his creation man or women doing zina (adultery).

5. Do not kill anyone that Allah has made haraam, except when you have the haq, the judicial right to do so: eg in the battlefield, or by justice and law.
These commandments are essential and so you are being asked to use your intellect to understand and follow.

6. Do not even approach the property of the orphan, except for what is best for him or her. And if it is in your jurisdiction keep it safe till he or she becomes of age of maturity, physically, emotionally and intellectually (age 25 according to some scholars).
Other references from the Quran:
004.006
YUSUFALI: Make trial of orphans until they reach the age of marriage; if then ye find sound judgment in them, release their property to them; but consume it not wastefully, nor in haste against their growing up. If the guardian is well off, Let him claim no remuneration, but if he is poor, let him have for himself what is just and reasonable. When ye release their property to them, take witnesses in their presence: But all sufficient is Allah in taking account.

004.010
YUSUFALI: Those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, eat up a Fire into their own bodies: They will soon be enduring a Blazing Fire!

7. When you measure or weigh do it accurately, and with justice, do not keep any for yourself that actually belongs to them.

It is a disaster for those who deliberately do not measure and weigh for others and usurp their right.

8. Allah SWT does not burden any person with what is a great difficulty for them and lays on them tasks according to their ability to bear the burden.

9. When you speak do so justly (especially dealing between your children) or give witness, be truthful and just even if you have to give witness against your close relative or kin.
Reference from the Quran:
004.135
YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.
036.060
YUSUFALI: “Did I not enjoin on you, O ye Children of Adam, that ye should not worship Satan; for that he was to you an enemy avowed?-

10. Fulfill the covenant of Allah:
Don’t worship anything other than Allah
Don’t do what he asked you not to do
Do what he asked you to do.
Fulfill your promise (ehad) because you will have to account for it. If you make a promise with Allah’s name you must fulfill it.
References:
016.091
YUSUFALI: Fulfill the Covenant of Allah when ye have entered into it, and break not your oaths after ye have confirmed them; indeed ye have made Allah your surety; for Allah knoweth all that ye do.
Covenant of Allah taken by the children of Adam
007.172
YUSUFALI: When thy Lord drew forth from the Children of Adam – from their loins – their descendants, and made them testify concerning themselves, (saying): “Am I not your Lord (who cherishes and sustains you)?”- They said: “Yea! We do testify!” (This), lest ye should say on the Day of Judgment: “Of this we were never mindful”:

Allah is giving us these commandments so that we are constantly aware of these and remember to act on them constantly and consistently.

6:153 Verily, this is My way, leading straight: follow it: follow not (other) paths: they will scatter you about from His (great) path: thus doth He command you. that ye may be righteous.
Waanna hatha siratee mustaqeeman faittabiAAoohu wala tattabiAAoo alssubula fatafarraqa bikum AAan sabeelihi thalikum wassakum bihi laAAallakum tattaqoona

Tafseer: Following these commandments will keep one on the straight path. Thus Allah SWT commands that follow this path not the others, if you do stray to the side paths, which are the paths of Shaytaan which lead to the Hellfire, then you will be separated from the path of Allah. He has given you these essential guidelines so that you become muttaqeen and are saved from the path of the Fire.

Hadith: Beware of the side paths away from the straight path as that is where Shaitan is sitting to get you off the straight path for good.

Use your intellect, understand, and then act on these commandments.

Disobeying these commandments falls into the category of major sins.
End tafseer.

My take:
These commandments are repeated in every sermon in every church and synagogue and yet people go and do exactly the opposite…Why?
Tawheed is missing from their commandments…….Why?

The only reason we need to be aware of what others do is to beware of falling into those habits too that lead us away from acting on these commandments of Allah.
These commandments encompass the thought processes, love, family life, business, children, justice, and taking responsibility for ones own acts.

The following for me is an assurance as well as a warning:

Allah SWT does not burden any person with what is a great difficulty for them and lays on them tasks according to their ability to bear the burden.

Supplication:

May Allah (SWT) :

Give us the strength and taqwa to follow these commandments.

To give us the insight and perseverance to perform istighfaar if we have transgressed any of these.

To empower us to stay consistently on the Siraat e Mustaqeem with His (SWT) blessings.

To lead us to Jannat al Firdous, to behold His (SWT) face and be enveloped in His SWT love……… for eternity. Inshallah let this be our goal. Ameen.

How do you remind yourself to fulfill the commandments?

Which Commandment is most challenging for you intellectually or in action?
