WHAT IS INCLUDED IN IBADAH (WORSHIP) IN ISLAM? Surah Yaseen 36:60-61

In Fes: the name of our Lord

Surah Yaseen 60-61

[36:60] Sahih International

Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan – [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy -

[36:61] Sahih International

And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path.

TAFSEER BY DR FARHAT HASHMI (TRANSLATED FROM URDU)

O children of Adam Do not obey, follow or become the slave of or do ibadat of Shaitaan, he is your clear enemy…….Allah Subhanawataala says, “DO my ibadah! This is the straight path”

Abudooni……….

What is included in Allah’s ebadah?

Ibadah is: al khudhu, wal tazalul (translation?)

The straight path is ibadah

Every act of a Momin, every day every moment whether it is in Deen or dunya. If it is in obedience of Allah is ibadah.

Every act even that of thinking is ibadah if it is in accordance with Allah’s guidelines.

Even walking sitting (correct use of the limbs) looking (at what is in obedience to Allah and staying away from disobedience of Allah). Even the relation ship between man and woman in marriage is ibadat (the opposite is a haram relationship between a man and woman which is not ibadah and is in disobedience of Allah)

Wearing clothes is ibadah (the opposite is being naked which is haram)

Treating a patient is ibadah (as you are taking away someone’s pain as Allah says one who takes away someone’s pain in the world he will take away someone’s pain in the Hereafter)

When we eat when we are hungry and when we feed others (if someone feeds another, that takes him or her to jannah) however it needs to be in the circle of obedience there should be no waste, no excess, not haram.

The entire life of a MOMIN is ibadah if he or she does it in moderation.

If one eats it is Ibadah however if one eats so much that it takes one away from Salah or makes us acutely sick or eat wrong things which cause chronic illnesses (hypercholesterolemia, obesity, diabetes etc.) then the same act becomes not an ibadah.

Sleep is ibadah unless it makes us miss fajr or other designated rights of Allah.

Distributing inheritance is ibadah, which means that it is okay to save (again not in excess)

Working is ibadah unless one is leaving jumma off (commanded by Allah) and working, or earning non-halal money or working in places, which serve or sell haram things.

The work of shaytaan is to distract us from what is important and on Siraat e Mustaqeem towards sidelines and byways that are away from what is obedient to Allah.

The most important caveat that all acts of ibadah (worship) depend on whether we have knowledge of what is in accordance with Allah’s guidelines. Thus learning Ilm or knowledge of what Allah commands and what is forbidden for each act of our life is mandatory to being in ibadah 24/7.

MY TAKE:

In my humble opinion the best way to do ibadah 24/7 would be to begin with the fulfillment of the rights of Allah or fard acts and make time for them.

  1. We need to design our life such that we do our work at home or outside in between Salah times.
  2. We need to be alert and conscious of each act of action passive (looking, hearing or thinking) or active (walking, doing with hands or private parts).
  3. Most of all study study and study the Quran and each act of our Rasool pbuh because he was a walking obedience of Allah. (A walking Quran as per Aisha RA).
  4. We need to stop fighting with each other about minutia and start mapping out our daily regimen and make two columns, one  “this is ibadah” second column “not ibadah “and delete those acts and lifestyle actions which fall in the “not ibadah”

This is renewal and unburdening of the spirit, just like cleaning house and taking out the trash.

If you do it, I will too!

Please send me and share examples of what you have included and what you have removed. Lets reinforce each other’s ibadah!

Supplication: May Allah give us strength, will power and guidance to be in ibadah at all times.

THE CONCEPT OF WORSHIP is also discussed in Surah Al Anam read here for more………..
